Bonita Bay Club

Bonita Springs, Florida
239  498-2626
This club has five outstanding eighteen hole courses, including a pair of Tom Fazio designs that opened in 1997 and 1998 respectively. A new 8,294-square foot clubhouse was completed in 1998. These courses have their own distinct design, but each has fairly wide landing areas on the fairways and many natural hazards. The Marsh Course has more hazards and is tighter than the other courses. The Creekside Course is more open and features less trouble. Both the Bay Island Course and the Marsh Course require play through swamplands and around lakes. Also, both courses have interesting elevation changes. The Bay Island Course was selected by "Golf Digest" as the 15th "Best in State" course for 1997-98. The Florida State Amateur is annually played on these courses. Both Tom Fazio designed courses, Cypress and Sabal, feature forgiving fairways and large, fast greens. Bunkers are deep, both on the fairways and greens.

Raptor Bay Golf Club
23001 Coconut Point Resort
Bonita Springs, Florida
239 390-4610
Raptor Bay Golf Club opened its first eighteen holes September 2001. This par 71, championship track is designed by Raymond Floyd and is located on Florida's west coast, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa, between Naples and Fort Myers. This course was carved from south Florida swampland and features wide, rolling fairways surrounded by wetlands and 22 acres of lakes. Because there is so much water surrounding the course, the architect deliberately left bunkers out of its design. However, there are several waste and natural vegetation areas waiting to eat up errant shots. The course plays from 5,217 to 6,702-yards from five sets of tees to challenge all skill levels. Raptor Bay was the first golf course in the United States to receive Audobon International's Gold Certification.

This course had restoration work done in 1995 that was overseen by Gary Grandstaff, a member of Pete Dye's staff. They replaced the original contouring of the greens and added many updated features. The greens, with new putting surfaces, are large and vary in undulation. This is a fair course because there are no hidden hazards. The finishing hole, a 543-yard, par 5, has water guarding both sides of the fairway and another water hazard sitting to the right of the well-bunkered green. The facility hosted the 1972 NCAA Championships and the 1996 Southwest Florida PGA Championship. Lessons and clinics are offered by certified PGA professionals; contact the pro shop for more information.

This executive course has small greens and there is water that comes into play on fifteen holes. The signature hole is #4, a 425-yard, par 5, featuring a landing area that becomes narrow because of the sand bunkers on both sides and then a green that slopes away from the fairway.
