The course is surrounded by
water, and, additionally, ponds
come into play. The fairways are
fairly wide open, the greens are
small and there are many palm
trees and sand bunkers on the
course. Only guests of the
resort may play the course. The
course is closed usually from

This is an
extremely beautiful course set
in a native landscape with an
abundance of wildlife, such as
ospreys, eagles, wood storks and
alligators. From the tees to the
greens they have planted
Adelaidea grass in the fairways,
which is native to Australia.
They are the only course in
America to have this grass.
There is water that comes into
play on all of the eighteen
holes. The fairways are narrow
with some hills. The greens are
raised and undulating. Three
greens are peninsula greens
well-guarded by sand bunkers. |

Bonita Bay Club

Club Dr
Bonita Springs, Florida

This club has
five outstanding
eighteen hole
courses,
including a pair
of Tom Fazio
designs that
opened in 1997
and 1998
respectively. A
new 8,294-square
foot clubhouse
was completed in
1998. These
courses have
their own
distinct design,
but each has
fairly wide
landing areas on
the fairways and
many natural
hazards. The
Marsh Course has
more hazards and
is tighter than
the other
courses. The
Creekside Course
is more open and
features less
trouble. Both
the Bay Island
Course and the
Marsh Course
require play
through
swamplands and
around lakes.
Also, both
courses have
interesting
elevation
changes. The Bay
Island Course
was selected by
"Golf Digest" as
the 15th "Best
in State" course
for 1997-98. The
Florida State
Amateur is
annually played
on these
courses. Both
Tom Fazio
designed
courses, Cypress
and Sabal,
feature
forgiving
fairways and
large, fast
greens. Bunkers
are deep, both
on the fairways
and greens.

Raptor Bay Golf
Club opened its
first eighteen
holes September
2001. This par
71, championship
track is
designed by
Raymond Floyd
and is located
on Florida's
west coast,
adjacent to the
Hyatt Regency
Coconut Point
Resort & Spa,
between Naples
and Fort Myers.
This course was
carved from
south Florida
swampland and
features wide,
rolling fairways
surrounded by
wetlands and 22
acres of lakes.
Because there is
so much water
surrounding the
course, the
architect
deliberately
left bunkers out
of its design.
However, there
are several
waste and
natural
vegetation areas
waiting to eat
up errant shots.
The course plays
from 5,217 to
6,702-yards from
five sets of
tees to
challenge all
skill levels.
Raptor Bay was
the first golf
course in the
United States to

Fort Myers, Florida

This club has two
regulation eighteen hole
courses; it also hosted the Fila
Invitational in 1986 for the top
thirty professional players. The
Long Mean Course has either
waste bunkers or water hazards
coming into play on seventy-five
percent of the course. The
fairways are fairly open, but
offer more trouble than the Wee
Friendly Course. The Wee
Friendly Course was formerly
known as the Piper's Challenge,
and was redesigned by architect
Bob Cupp in 1999. This course
has narrow fairways but less
water in play overall. |

This club has two
outstanding eighteen hole
courses. The club annually hosts
the National Pro AM. The Bear
Course has many trees coming
into play, and the Bobcat Course
has water hazards coming into
play on fourteen holes. The
signature hole on the Bear
Course is #14, a 503-yard, par
5, requiring a tee shot up a
narrow fairway with
out-of-bounds stakes lining on
one side of the fairway and a
lake on the other, then an
approach shot to an undulating
green that is well bunkered.
Lewis added the back nine to the
Bear Course in 1986, and Gene
Bates redesigned the Bobcat
Course around 1990. |

Washingtonian Palm W
Fort Myers, Florida
239 278-9090 |
This facility has
three nine hole courses that are
played in three eighteen hole
combinations. The fairways are
somewhat flat and open.
Out-of-bounds concerns are not a
factor on the forgiving
fairways. The greens are
undulating and vary in size.
Those who play the course remark
on the friendly atmosphere,
which is directly attributed to
the staff, and the course's
immaculate condition. The
signature hole is #6, a
433-yard, par 4, which requires
a tee shot to an island
green. |

Lexington Country Club
16257 Willowcrest
Way
Fort Myers, Florida
239 437-3380 |
This course
features wide and slightly
undulating fairways. The
undulation on the greens vary
from hole to hole. Typically,
the longer and more difficult
holes will have large and flat
greens. Whereas short holes will
have small, and severely
undulating greens. Water hazards
come into play on seventeen
holes. The signature hole is
#13, a 576-yard, par 5,
featuring a double dogleg
fairway lined with sand bunkers
and requiring an approach shot
over water to the green. This
hole tempts many golfers to "get
on" in two shots, but accuracy
is a must if you wish to
accomplish this feat. |

because of the sand bunkers on
both sides and then a green that
slopes away from the fairway.
